TRANSFER STUDENTS
IN TRANSFERS
Transfer INTO NCDS from another DRIVING SCHOOL OR STATE/COUNTY:
You will need to provide our office either an official letter on a letter head or a certificate from the school or company where you took the driver education program. The form must show how many hours of instruction, for classroom and behind the wheel, the student has completed. Our office will submit the information to a DMV specialist and if approved, we will provide the student with a NC completion certificate. If the requirements for NC have not been met, our office staff will contact you to determine the next steps.
OUT TRANSFERS
Transfer OUT of NCDS to a Private Driving School or another STATE/COUNTY:
Please contact our office and we will send the private driving school your student’s RIP form (if available) and the 611 certificate needed to complete your student’s training.
HOMESCHOOL STUDENTS
Home school students are eligible to take the class at any of the schools in the county in which they live. Since NC law requires 30 hours of class, students must be able to get to the class on time. Please do not register for a class if you cannot attend every day and arrive on time.
If you are a home school student and want to attend a class at a public school or private school, please visit our Class Schedules link to view available classes.
If you want to attend a Home School-specific class, please contact our office to discuss scheduling.
ADULT LESSONS
Students who are 18 years old, but are still enrolled in a public, private, charter or licensed home school may still take Driver Education. After completing the class, the student must obtain their permit before they will be able to complete the behind the wheel training. Those students who are 18 years old or older will need to have their NC permit with them when they drive with our instructor.
If you are not enrolled in the school system but are over the age of 18, NCDS offers private driving lessons in certain areas. Please contact the NCDS office to find out if we can assist you in your specific county. The fee is $150 per session with each session lasting 2 hours. Please complete and return the private contract found here. We will process your payment and have an instructor call you to schedule your driving. Our instructor can pick up and drop off at your residence and is able to work around your schedule according to your needs.
DEFENSIVE DRIVING CLASSES
North Carolina Driving School also provides driver improvement classes. Classes are held every other Wednesday evening from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm. If you need an 8-hour course, you will need to return on a second date to complete the other 4 hours. The cost is $60 for either our 4 hour or 8 hour program. All sessions are taught at our Winterville location. Call us today to reserve your class session.
